Trump Triggers Storm, Calls for DOJ Investigation of Clinton, Summers and Hoffman Over Epstein Links

Washington: President Donald Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that he will ask Attorney General Pam Bondi, the US Department of Justice (DOJ), and the FBI to investigate late financier Jeffrey Epstein's ties to Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, and banking giant JPMorgan Chase.

Trump accused Democrats of using the "Epstein hoax" 

He wrote, “Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein hoax—which is tied to the Democrats, not the Republicans—to distract from their disastrous shutdown and other failures, I will be calling on AG Pam Bondi, the DOJ, and the FBI to investigate Epstein’s relationships with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, and JPMorgan Chase...”

In another post, Trump claimed Epstein was a “Democrat”

He wrote, "Democrats are trying their best to rehash the Epstein hoax even though the DOJ has released 50,000 pages of documents. They want to divert attention from their failed policies and especially the disgraceful state of the shutdown. Some weak Republicans have fallen for it, too. Epstein was a Democrat, and that's their issue, not the Republicans'. Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers—them. Know all about Epstein; don't waste my time. I have to run the country."

Political tension increased due to Trump's allegations

The situation has further heated up following the release of more than 2,300 email threads and other documents related to Epstein's estate. The documents mention Summers, Clinton, and other high-profile people, including Trump himself.

Trump termed this entire issue as a “party weapon” and said that the Democrats are using it to target him and his supporters. He is calling it a “hoax,” a “conspiracy,” and similar to the “Russia, Russia, Russia” narrative of the past.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News, "They're trying to attack the president (Trump). They're trying to excuse Epstein. It's kind of Trump derangement syndrome." Republican Congressman John Kennedy also warned that the DOJ would have to clearly reveal who else was in contact with Epstein, otherwise the controversy would not be quelled.

Will DOJ open an investigation under political pressure?

If the DOJ moves forward on Trump's demand, it could face increased pressure to declassify more Epstein case files, emails, and alleged "client lists." Trump ended his post by writing “Stay Tuned!”—signaling that he was going to pursue the issue further.
